Pocket Door Frame Rough Opening

All frames can be cut down to fit smaller size door. Use a section of 2 by 4 5 08 by 10 16cm as the new header. Be careful to keep the cut shallow. The rough opening for the pocket door is the rectangle created by the wall studs.

While this opening looks very large it must accommodate the door once it slides in the pocket to open. This will need to be 1 inch 2 54 cm more than twice the length of the pre existing header since it will need to span the distance of the entire rough opening. Take out the section of drywall which is above the door in order to frame the new header. If your door is 80 high standard size construct a rough opening of a header and two studs at a minimum height of 84 1 2.

Our old door measured 78 1 2 so we lowered the header by 1 1 2 cutting the bottom ends of the split jambs. Frame the rough opening. 84 84 84 84 84 rough opening. Make the rough opening for a pocket door two times the width of the door plus 1 inch with a height of 84 1 2 inches from the highest spot on the subflooring.
